Governor's Message

I want to thank Therese McAndrew and her hard working committee for the great job with the “Msgr John F Sammon Memorial Golf Outing”. I don’t have the actual numbers of clergy and religious that played, or came to the dinner and festivities, but both parts of the event were well attended. It took a lot of hard work getting the word out to the clergy and religious, as well as gathering up the many gifts that were distributed at the dinner. And how about the MC Fr. Bill Barman, I’m glad the Church got him before he went into Show Business, he kept us all interested, and had many personal comments to the recipients that added to the fun of the evening. Thanks Fr. Bill for your part.   As Therese takes a few big sighs of relief, I can hardly wait till the next one.

The West Orange Club held their annual BBQ and International Croquet Tournament. I’m sorry I missed it because family events took precedence that day. Our family and friends celebrated Harriet’s Birthday with a little surprise. The number shall go unsaid. Ernie reports the event was also well attended and rumor has it Sr. Eymard joined the party.

Last item for this month is a bequeath from Bernice Heffernan of $10,000 to the Serra Clubs of Orange Diocese. We are in the midst of getting the legalities of how to disperse this money. The clubs have agreed that the full amount of the bequeath will be deposited in the “The Msgr. John F. Sammon Fund”. The monies from this fund will be used to support the vocations of our seminarians. Bernice was a charter member of the City Club and comes from an old Santa Ana family the Borchards. The family has been good to the Diocese, and continues to do so.
